Social Interaction. Social Media. Social Networking.
Alright let's face it. We are all social animals and we are very much dependent on the reception we get from the external environment in this highly charged sensory world. Forms, sensations, perceptions, mental formations and ultimately consciousness all play a large part in the way we experience the external world. What we want, and what we experience are all very different and subjective. It is not absolute. And it is constantly changing. The only constant is change and these behavior is changing rapidly these days. You might said that introverted people like to interact more often over social media or extroverted people tends to prefer physical face-to-face communication. But I personally do not think that there is an absolute state of introverted behavior or extroverted behavior. Maybe you can call it ambivert, or whatever you want to call it. Thus, all these experience are impermanent and fluid, but the point here is evolution. Evolution of communication (or rather interaction via different means) in the modern 21st century.
So now the question is whether we are having meaningful conversation, or just superficial interaction (via smart devices). Are we losing the human touch? Are we neglecting the environment around us? Is it too excessive? Or it is not enough? Do you suffer from fear of missing out (FOMO)? Or you find joy in missing out (JOMO)? What do you really need? And what do you really want? Do you engage in superfluous (online) communications these days that eventually drains you out and you decided to take sabbatical from all your social media accounts? Or worst still, are you addicted to social media unknowingly?
I don't know, and I do not have the answer for you. But I was questioned before why I left Facebook more than a decade ago. And I was really flabbergasted at the reception that I had received. In fact, I have ever performed a few social experiment on Instagram for a prolonged period of time and the end results were amazing! Now if I can trace back time, I could still remembered vividly that life still goes on, with little or no digital trace in the rigmarole of the social media vacuum. And now if you asked whether I had regretted my decision, or rather missing out on a lot of things, my answer is still the same.
And the answer is simple. Because life should be simple.
